Teamwork at Wahl+Case

This is how we work

We recently received a comment in our customer satisfaction survey from a placed candidate about how to improve our recruitment process:

“When I started my job search with Wahl+Case, I was a little confused by the fact that I was contacted by different consultants about jobs in different industries. If you had informed me of this in advance, we could have worked together more smoothly.”

Reading this, I realized that we don’t really explain the unique Wahl+Case approach to recruitment anywhere on our website or other channels and leave it simply to our consultants to go through our process with the job-seeker. That’s why I decided to write this piece and shed some light on how we work, living our value of transparency.

It all starts with our one and only company rule:

“Always do what is in the best interest of your customers. Always.”

If we can find the right job for you and you are satisfied, we have done our job well. That’s why our consultants are grouped in teams focusing on specific industries or positions, to ensure that you are speaking with an expert in that field.

To give you a better understanding, I’d like to give you a brief overview of our teams first and then I will explain how we work in a bit more detail.

Introduction to Wahl+Case Teams

The recruitment teams at Wahl+Case are largely divided into two areas: business side positions and technical positions. Our business side teams cover all sales, business development, marketing, customer success or account manager positions as well as general management roles like country manager or APAC manager. Our technical teams cover all engineering, design, technical support, CIO and CTO roles.

Now it gets interesting. Our business side teams are further divided with a focus on different industries whereas our technical teams are grouped into teams with a focus on functions. Each of the technical teams work on a specific job role, but is not limited to one industry. This means they share clients with all other teams. Main industries that they cover are e-commerce, web/mobile services, IT consulting, enterprise tech, ad-tech, consumer tech, fin-tech, ed-tech and more.

We also have a community team that is responsible for scouting and outreaching to potential job seekers. The community team works closely together with our consultants to introduce great candidates.

Now let’s get to the different recruitment teams here at Wahl+Case.

Business Side Teams

Consumer Tech Industry

Jordan Sugimoto, Team Leader
LinkedIn

Consumer technology is everywhere.

Over the past 10 years the rise of smartphone applications and high-speed ISPs have given companies direct access to sell via an internet connection. Online retailers, e-commerce, video and music streaming services, OTA companies, mobile gaming, and AR/VR all fall under the remit of the team’s coverage and expertise, in addition to more traditional models of business-to-consumer revenue models such as brick-and-mortar retail companies. Clients can be as large as household name companies like GAFA or as small as one or two staff startups looking to add talent to grow their business locally and regionally.

How We Work

Now that you have a good understanding of what kind of industries and positions we cover here at Wahl+Case, it’s time to dive into how our consultants work together to offer you as many relevant positions as possible.

Our approach is based on our core value “Team Oriented”:

“People that excel in our environment possess a certain selflessness. They don’t pin blame, they help each other out, they share information. They know that our ambitious goals can only be achieved together.”

So once you register with us, your profile will be shared amongst our consultants because our consultants don’t have so called “Candidate Ownership”. Every consultant is allowed to reach out to you as long as they have a relevant position in their portfolio. This means you will get at least contacted by the other consultants from that team, unless you have a very specific skill set.

Let’s say you are a Mobile Developer and you register with Wahl+Case. The first position you will get introduced to will most likely be from the consultant who registered you. We value internal communication and information sharing a lot, so all of our consultants know what positions their team members currently work on. That’s why they will actively introduce your profile to other consultants with relevant jobs for you. This guarantees that you can take full advantage of Wahl+Case’s broad portfolio of clients and are not dependent on one consultant’s personal network.

And if your skill set has industry overlap, your profile will also be shared with other teams.

A good example is our consumer tech team which focuses primarily on sales and marketing professionals from companies or industries with a customer-centric business model. As a result, candidates are often shared with our AdTech team as the AdTech industry is driven by a strategic understanding of the psychology of selling to individual consumers.

Another example is our FinTech team. FinTech is a fast-growing area that is more closely linked to software technology than to financial services, and as such our clients tend to hire people from strong B2B or B2C tech backgrounds so our candidates tend to be shared most closely with our enterprise tech team but also with our consumer tech team.

Conclusion

I hope I could shed some light on the way we approach recruitment here at Wahl+Case. I know it can be overwhelming in the beginning to receive many emails and phone calls from different consultants, but it simply means that your skill set is in high demand. That’s good!

Also, we tailor our approach individually to you, so if you only want to work with one consultant, let us know. If you only want to be contacted by email, let us know. Anything else? Let us know.  Just keep in mind that you might miss out on opportunities if you put too many limitations on us.

Let’s work together and get you the best job out there.
